The club takes its name from the area of outstanding natural beauty on the Devon and Somerset border - the Blackdown Hills, which is where most of the club's events take place.

The club's purpose is to stage Kennel Club agility competitions and it does not offer regular training sessions.

Membership for 2012 costs £5.00 per person. Members pay a reduced entry fee to the club's competitions on the understanding that they help with the running of any Blackdown AS event they have entered.
